Subcontracting Plan
(Updated August 23, 2011) On groundbreaking day, November 20, 2009, KBR/Turner's leadership publicly committed to including local, small and diverse suppliers as a part of our subcontracting plan.
We are proud of the fact that, to date, 85% of the work on the project has been contracted to local South Carolina firms and 25% to minority, women and veteran owned businesses. The opportunities to participate are many, and we have made it a priority to inform interested parties about these opportunities and the pre-qualification process.
Note: Actually, more than 85% of the work has been awarded to SC firms when one takes into account that some services and materials — such as the Four-Hook Bridge Cranes and Hangar Doors — are not available in the South Carolina marketplace.
Training Programs
In addition, in 2010, Turner, in partnership with Boeing, the KBR Building Group, the Charleston County Small Business Enterprise Program and the Carolinas Minority Supplier Development Council, launched the Turner School of Construction Management program in South Carolina, which serves to expand the skills of minority, women, disadvantaged and small-business enterprises. Twenty-seven local minority and women-owned businesses have completed this nine-week training program.
