Following the blood drive the JV held a raffle and three donors won $50 Visa gift cards.

Joint Venture Celebrates 2 Million Safe Man-Hours without Lost-Time Incident! Team Shows Appreciation to 1,000+ Tradeworkers with Holiday Turkey Giveaway
On December 22, 2010, BE&K/Turner celebrated another safety milestone — 2 million labor-hours worked without a lost-time incident. With the Christmas holiday just a few days away, instead of hosting a celebratory luncheon, the Joint Venture chose to give out frozen turkeys to the more than 1,000 tradeworkers currently on the construction site. Kenny Anderson, construction manager, proudly noted, “The entire Joint Venture team has made safety a full-time priority on the jobsite. Reaching 2 million labor-hours without a lost-time incident is a remarkable accomplishment for which everyone associated with this project should be extremely proud. Our subcontractors and their employees deserve the most recognition for accomplishing this milestone.”

Joint Venture and Partners Proudly Support Angel Tree Program
December 20, 2010 — The BE&K/Turner Joint Venture extends a heartfelt thank you to the many employees who participated in the 2010 Debi’s Kids| Salvation Army Angel Tree program. Because of the generosity of JV employees, 200 local children will have gifts under the tree on Christmas Day. Boeing “adopted” a group of children as well. In addition, the following JV partners, subcontractors and suppliers helped out: BRPH, CCCS International, C.R. Hipp, Coastal Occupational Medicine, ElDeCO, Honeywell, MC Dean, O.L. Thompson, PASCO Automatic Sprinkler, Precision Walls and S&ME.

Debi's Kids was started by Live 5 News anchor Debi Chard in 1993 to serve families who have no other resources for the Holidays. In 2004, WCSC's Debi's Kids formed a partnership with The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program in an effort to reach more families in need. Debi's Kids provides new, unwrapped toys for children 12 and under for Christmas, and in some cases through partnership with the Salvation Army, also provides food for the Holidays.

Passionately Pink for the Cure — Joint Venture Exceeds Fundraising Goal for Susan G. Komen
The Joint Venture did its part to help fight cancer and find a cure. "Go PINK for the Cure Day" was celebrated at the jobsite on Tuesday, October 19 to raise awareness of breast cancer while raising funds for research. BE&K/Turner Team members — men included — dressed in pink and purchased pink ribbons for $1.00 to support the cause. The JV raised $1,036.49 to benefit the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. An oversized check was presented to representatives of that organization at the JV's quarterly All Hands on Deck meeting. Our donation was increased through the matching gift programs of Turner Construction and the BE&K Building Group, a KBR Company. Everyone was excited to learn that we surpassed our fundraising goal!

One-Million Safe Man-Hours Celebration Held in Conjunction with Topping-Out Ceremony. Tradeworkers Praised for Milestone Achievement!
On Friday, September 24, 2010, BE&K/Turner formally celebrated reaching the highest point of the final assembly and delivery facility. Boeing commemorated the milestone with a traditional topping out ceremony attended by more than 1,000 people. Joining the more than 800 tradeworkers currently on site were Boeing's South Carolina executives, local and state officials, and other special guests. The topping out event was immediately followed by a tradeworker appreciation luncheon to mark the concurrent achievement of a major safety milestone — 1,000,000 man-hours worked without a lost-time incident. After a brief ceremony, the crowd enjoyed a buffet lunch complete with a raffle and giveaways. "We are excited to be celebrating the topping out on schedule, and especially proud of our subcontractor partners who have completed nine months of fast-paced construction without any lost-time incidents," said Mike Pace, BE&K/Turner's project executive.

Construction Team Volunteers Perform First of Many Repairs for Local Non-Profit, the Good Neighbor Center (for Homeless Veterans)
The BE&K/Turner/ BRPH Design-Build Team, together with Boeing and Global Performance, has “adopted” a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing transitional housing for homeless veterans. With the volunteer help of our many generous subcontractors, we are supplying labor and materials for much-needed repairs at the Good Neighbor Center’s current location of 20 years — a former motel that was abandoned after Hurricane Hugo struck the Charleston coast in 1989. Our inaugural repair project, which took place the week of July 19, 2010, involved repairing the water supply line to the entire site. This work will result in a significant reduction in the Center’s water bill.

Proud Sponsor of "Zoom" Soccer Team of James Island Youth Soccer Club
The BE&K/Turner Joint Venture is proud to be a 2010 "Challenge Level" sponsor of the James Island Youth Soccer Club, coached by BE&K/Turner's own Michael Rendon. In mid-July, the "Zoom" team visited the Boeing 787 Expansion jobsite where the team was presented with a $1,500 check. The girls and their parents expressed their gratitude to the many individuals who donated personal funds, which were then matched by BE&K/Turner.
